The Red Bulls finally announced the hiring of their new Head Coach. It's a Swedish guy by the name of Hans Backe. He's had plenty of experience in several countries, mananging in the Danish League, in the English lower divisions (had a two month spell at Notts County), in Austria (SV Salzburg - now FC Red Bull Salzburg), in Greece (A very brief, two game spell at Panathinaikos) and had a spell as an assistant to Sven-Goran Eriksson at both Manchester City and with the Mexican National Team.
My take? Who??? But seriously, Backe is not a Big-Name but he's someone that's had a good amount of success in the Danish League (4 titles, with 2 teams). History is not on his side, however, as foreign coaches have not been able to cope with the complexities of MLS. One thing on Backe's side is that Richie Williams is staying put as Assistant Coach. Williams, with his great knowledge of all things MLS, will be an invaluable asset to Mr. Backe. One can only hope that it will be Williams at the helm during next week's MLS draft. Let's all hope for the best.
