RBNY News: Mystery Left Wing Target Revealed

The Nordic Invasion continues at Red Bull New York! Various Danish news sources are now reporting that Brian Nielsen, currently playing with Danish First Division club Vejle Boldklub, is the mysterious Left Winger mentioned as a transfer target this week by RBNY Head Coach Hans Backe. The 23 year old Nielsen, a teammate of Salou Ibrahim at Vejle, has been capped 9 times with Denmark's U21 National Team and was recently on trial with FC Schalke 04.

In a deal that, at first glance, seems mighty complicated, Nielsen will come to Red Bull NY on loan from Vejle until the European Transfer Window opens in July. He will then be bought by Red Bull Salzburg, who will then loan him back to Red Bull NY. This report out of Denmark had Nielsen coming to Red Bull NY until the end of 2011. Now this report refutes that and says that Nielsen will be at RBNY only until the end of 2010. He will then join Red Bull Salzburg on January 1st, 2011.

What can we expect from Nielsen? I've never seen him play but that Shalke 04 had him on trial (a trial reportedly cut short due to injury on his first day there) says a lot. A Danish poster on Big Soccer (Garby80) had this to say, regarding Nielsen:
Personal note: Brian Nielsen, can play both winger and forward. Very fast, good technique, not very consistent.
Sounds like Dane Richards to me, except for the "good technique" part. What really worries me is a little blurb in this report:
OB had Vejle 23-year-old great talent in the viewfinder - even though he previously for disciplinary problems off the pitch. But now Brian Nielsen apparently lost for Danish football.
What the Google translator means is that Danish powerhouse Odense Boldklub had him in it's sights, even though he's had off-pitch disciplinary problems. Hopefully he hasn't had the type of problems with the law that Red Bulls transfer target Luke Rodgers has, reportedly, had. Nevertheless, that's not good to hear. Hopefully, the Backe/Soler brain-trust know what they're doing with this guy as well. The Lindpere and Miller signings have been inspired, so there is no reason to believe this one will be any different.

In regards to what Nielsen's signing will mean to the roster situation, our man Homebrew has this to say:
With the collapse of the Rodgers deal, this move will not necessitate any cuts from the roster today. However, when Albright comes off IR (since it looks like he’ll be ready first), someone will have to go.
And speaking of the reported collapse of the Luke Rodgers deal: Stefan Bondy is now reporting that his work permit has NOT been denied, it just hasn't been approved yet. Stay tuned, as we might still see the mighty mite here in RBNY land.

From the Incredible But True Department: If the Brian Nielsen to RBNY signing does, in fact, happen, he will become the third Vejle Boldklub player transferred to MLS this year. Besides the aforementioned Salou Ibrahim, the Kansas City Wizards acquired goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen (no relation to Brian, apparently) from Vejle back in February.
