Red Bulls vs Chivas USA: Victory @The Break

The World Cup break, that is. A 1-nil victory against Chivas USA and another three points in hand. Yes - three more points, as we go into a three week MLS break, already equaling our total points for the whole of last season. A fantastic job, by the great Mr. Backe, to get our boys back to winning ways, after a 4 game MLS losing streak. We'll be riding a two game MLS win streak going into our next fixture @Kansas City on June 26th.

The Jack of All Trades, Seth Stammler, coming up big with a golazo, and a defense that did not buckle, made the difference on this day. Carlos Mendes replaced the very tired Mike Petke in the starting lineup and Tony Tchani, who's shaping up to be a monster in midfield, made just his second MLS start. This game also saw the return from injury, in the 66th minute, of forward Salou Ibrahim as well as another great 90 minute perfomance from right back Chris Albright. I might be speaking too soon but Albright, if he continues to play as he has, might be the steal of the year.

Anyway, before the MLS season resumes, we can look forward to a June 18th friendly against fabled Brazilian club Cruzeiro. Hopefully another opportunity for many of our reserve players to get some great minutes before MLS teams enter the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup proper, on June 29th.

Another atmosphere of magical proportions @The Cathedral of Football. A great crowd of 18,815, was driven, yet again, by the support from behind the south goal. It really sounded like much more, at times. As the great You Suck Corrales said, in the post match video: "We drove this team to victory". The atmosphere continues to be light years ahead of anything ever seen at Giants Stadium - and I don't want to hear anything about "The Beckham game" or that first Barcelona friendly. Those weren't as loud, period.
