What a tremendous performance by the Red Bulls up @Toronto and a massive three points in hand. A very convincing 4-1 goring of the home team, who hadn't lost @BMO Field in 17 competitive games. Also, it's the Red Bulls 4th away victory of this season, if you can believe it. After not getting even one away victory last year, this is just beyond every Red Bulls fans wildest dreams. With this victory the Red Bulls are now 8 points clear of Toronto for that all-important second place (and automatic playoff spot) in the Eastern Conference. All praise to our Viking King, Mr. Backe!
Congratulations to Rafa Marquez for getting his first MLS goal. And what a golazo it was! TH14, on the other hand, had a great opportunity to open up his MLS account, but his first goal in League play is proving to be just a bit elusive. The dam, however, is bound to break in one of these upcoming matches, I just know it. Henry will soon be scoring hat-tricks at will, or so I hope. Congratulations also to the great Juan Pablo Angel, who netted his 12th goal of the season. El Angel del Gol has now netted 12 or more goals a season, for the past four seasons. Grande Juan Pablo!
So the question most Red Bulls fans have for Toronto is: Can we play you, can we play you, can we play you every week??? Well, unfortunately, the answer to that one is a big, fat NO, as both teams have concluded their home & away series for this season. That said, I'm betting on the Red Bulls returning to BMO Field in late November. I'm not missing that road trip for anything.
A big home match, this coming Saturday, August 28th (7:30pm), against the San Jose Earthquakes, is next on the Red Bulls agenda. The Earthquakes, who are coming off a shock 1-0 victory against the League leading Los Angeles Galaxy, will be making their first appearance @The Cathedral of Football. Hope to see you there. Viper Out!
