What a result! An all-important 1-0 victory against Toronto FC, @The Cathedral of Football, handed RBNY three massive points. The Red Bulls are now 5 points clear of Toronto for that important 2nd place spot in the Eastern Conference standings. This game was truly a tale of two halves. Great football in the first, where the Red Bulls should have gone up 2 or 3 nil. Unfortunately, RBNY could only come up with one, but what a goal it was. Tremendous play by TH14, then Stammler, to set up Joel Lindpere, who finished like the cold blooded assassin he is in front of goal.
The second half was not so good, with little created a far as offense. It's really a good thing that Toronto had nothing in this game and the absence of several key RBNY players didn't cost us, thanks to Lindpere's goal. As you might know, Lindpere had been called up by the Estonian National Team, for a Euro 2012 qualifier against the Faroe Islands, and wouldn't have been here to score that magic goal. Thanks be to Odin that the Estonian Viking turned down his National Team's call-up to stay and fight for the RBNY cause.
Now comes another massive game @home against the LA Galaxy, a team that hasn't had any good results as of late. LA was destroyed by Chicago last weekend @The Home Depot Center and must be still reeling from being knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions League by the Puerto Rico Islanders. A big win by RBNY, against LA, combined with a Columbus loss @RSL, will put us within three points of the Crew, with 10 games to go. Let's hope the results go our way, and let's hope it all starts off with a big RBNY win @The Cathedral of Football. The Viper's Nest crew will all be there, of course. In the meantime, please check out the above video for Part I of our drunken comments @RBNY/TFC. You can click here for Part II and you can click here for Part III.
Another great time standing and screaming in the South Ward. A pretty good Wednesday night crowd, of just over 19,000, was on hand for this one. It's apparently a sell-out on Saturday, so I hope everyone has their ticket in hand. Please click here for my picture set from this one, or you can click here for the slide show.
A few other things:
Fomer Metro/RBNY great Clint Mathis, just recently retired, will be honored before tomorrow's game.
The ESC is holding a fundraiser for our former player Joe Vide, @El Pastor's, before tomorrow's game. If you don't already know, Joe was stricken with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has been screwed by his medical insurance company. If you can't make the El Pastor's fundraiser, the Red Bulls will be taking donations, on Joey's behalf, at the stadium. the Big viper says: don't be cheap. Put that hand in your pocket and give what you can. Thank you!
Our own Homebrew Tim is a finalist in Red Bull Official's Get Scarfed contest. Please log on to Facebook and click like on Tim's picture, with his lovely wife Nicole. Here is the direct link to the pic.
Don't forget that the EPL start tomorrow. If you haven't done so already, please join The Viper's Nest Yahoo Barclays Fantasy League. There will by RBNY related prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
