RBNY News & Notes: Superdraft Day Edition

Good Morning all! It's Superdraft time, and in just a few hours the Red Bulls will be picking some college kids to help our cause. We don't have a high pick this time, but could there be a Tim Ream-like sleeper pick, or two, this year? I, for one, certainly hope so. RBNY Supporters groups will be in Baltimore, making alot of noise (hopefully we'll get to hear the "Baltimore United" and "Philly Bimbo chants") so let's get to the latest developments.

Red Bulls Sporting Director Erik Soler revealed the RBNY Draft Day strategy yesterday. The team will be looking for defensive cover, but they could also go after the best possible player, no matter what the position. They're also looking at the posibility of trading up, in order to get one of the 2 to 3 players they really like.

A couple of final Mock Drafts for your enjoyment. The experts at MLSsoccer.com revised their earlier Mock Draft and are linking the Red Bulls with University of California Defender AJ Soares, UCSB Midfielder Michael Boxhall and North Carolina Midfielder Michael Farfan. Soccer America's latest Mock Draft has the Red Bulls linked with Michigan Forward Justin Meram. Meram has been linked with the Red Bulls over the last few weeks, in several Mock Drafts, but, according to this article, might skip MLS to play in the Israeli League. Seems former (for a hot second) Red Bulls defender Leo Krupnik recommended him to a club over in the Holy Land.

As you know, the players hoping to get drafted were down at the Florida combine this week looking to impress. Who actually did? Well, Fox Soccer give us this list of players whose stock rose, as well as a list of those whose stock dropped, at the combine. Apparently, Wayne Rooney's brother looked pretty good down there.

And why not a look back at Drafts of years gone by? Tom Floyd, over at Fanhouse, give us his best picks of all-time. Fomer Red Red Bulls defender Marvell Wynne is on that one. Yeah, I guess? Conversely, ESPN's Leander Schaerlaeckens gives us his worst picks of all-time. Former MetroStars Defender Steve Shak is on that one. No argument from me there.

A few more things:

Thierry Henry has just started a training stint with Arsenal FC, his former London Club.

Red Bull Arena was just named ENR Project of The Year (Sports/Recreation).

That's all for now. We'll have our massive draft coverage up soon. Let's hope we get some good ones. Viper Out!
