RBNY News & Notes: And The Norse Army Grows

Good afternoon! Another bitterly cold one here in RBNY Land. Thankfully, Mr. Backe has taken the boys down to warmer climates, south of the Rio Grande, for some Mexican pre-season training/action. So let's get into some news from the past week:

One player who would feel right at home in this bitter cold weather, currently being experienced by the Northeastern US, is former Spurs, Sunderland & Birmingham man Teemu Tainio. Currently signed to Ajax, the Finnish International has been linked to RBNY. The club has now confirmed that Tainio has joined the team down in Mexico. In addition to that, RBNY coach Hans Backe stated today that he's keen on signing Tainio and that, if signed, the Finn would be used at Right Back.

Another player linked to RBNY this week is German Superstar Miroslav Klose. The Red Bulls have, reportedly, offered the 32 year old Klose a 4 1/2 year contract, worth $5.4 Million per year.

There are a couple of players, recently linked with RBNY, who will, probably, not be coming. Honduran Right Back Mauricio Sabillón is the first of these. It seems his current club, Marathon, was none too happy with the offer that RBNY made for his transfer. French Superstar, and current Chelsea Forward, Nicolas Anelka will, more than likely, not be coming either.

One player who is now a former Red Bull is New Zealand's own Andrew Boyens. It was reported earlier this week that Boyens had turned down a new contract offer from RBNY and was on trial with Chivas USA. Boyens impressed and he was promptly signed by "The Goats". Good luck dude!

The biggest development of the week (for me, anyway) was the unveiling (finally) of the MLS 2011 Season Schedule. Personally, I'm quite happy with the Red Bulls Schedule as most home games are late on Saturday and there are very few (4) weekday games. Even the weekday games all have late starts (8:00pm) so I should have no problems getting there on time this year.

A few more things:

Here's an intersting NY Times Q & A with Joel Lindpere.

MLS has been posting "Where Are They Now" features on their site, with couple of former MetroStars players being featured recently. If you've ever wondered about midfielder extraordinaire Mark Chung or (my favorite Metro goalkeeper) Mike Ammann, then click on the links.

Finally, you can get your Rafa Marquez Wallpapers here!

That's all for now. Viper Out!
