Good Afternoon All! A pleasant Monday here in RBNY Land. Nice and sunny, but a bit too chilly for my liking. But nevermind the weather. This past Saturday, the big viper and the great Matt Conroy (aka Who Shot Sam) took in the Clash of International Futbol Titans that was USA vs Argentina. It was our first time at New Meadowlands Stadium and I was very impressed. Massive concourses, steep upper bowl seating and, best of all, it wasn't the wind tunnel that the old Giants Stadium was (a big plus on a 35 degree night).
The game itself was a tale of two halves. It was total Argentine domination in the first half, with the almost unstoppable Lionel Messi having his way with the US defense. Late in second half, one moment of Messi magic led to a Cambiasso goal and I thought that was it. The US, however, came alive in the second half and tied things up by way of Red Bull NY forward Juan Agudelo. The kid just cannot stop scoring for Club & Country and his legend continues to grow. Sadly, I'm thinking it won't be long before he's on his way east, across the Atlantic. I must evoke, yet again, the immortal words of the great You Suck Corrales and beg Red Bull NY Management to: "DP Him Now"!
The US held on to dear life for the final 1-1, but whatever. It was a very entertaining game, with a massive Man of The Match performance by former MetroStars (and North Jersey Imperials) great Tim Howard. Timmy, singlehandedly, kept the scoreline from really getting out of hand with his goalkeeping heroics. Although several US players had sub par performances, I was very impressed by #21, a 20 yr old kid by the name of Timmy Chandler. Never heard of this guy before but it's a good pickup by Mr. Bradley. RBNY Defender Tim Ream didn't see a minute of action in this one, but I'm sure he'll get his chance in tomorrow's US game against Paraguay.
There were lots of people, like myself, reppin' the Red Bulls at this game. RBNY even got some love on the four giant screens (with the old RBNY streaking bulls logo). Please see the above video for our usual drunken comments and predictions. You can click here for my photo album from this great day out or click here for the slide show. You can also click here for a "behind the scenes" take on Agudelo's goal. Viper Out!
