State of the Roster: June 2012 FIFA Break Edition

The MLS Players Union has made the 2012 MLS players' salaries available, so it's time to take a look at the current state of the Red Bulls Roster. Below is the current roster, with the following caveat. There is no information released regarding which players are Off-Budget. We know that Generation Adidas players are. I have made the assumption that any player at the league minimum ($44,000) or the youth minimum ($33,750) are our Off-Budget players.

Thoughts:

We are currently carrying a 25-man roster.  There are financial reasons for this.  By leaving 2 "On-Budget" slots empty, we are allowed to distribute the salary cap across 18 players instead of 20.  By leaving 2 "off-budget" slots open, we receive an allocation from the league. By rule, 18 on-budget slots must be filled, meaning that currently only 7 players are "off-budget."  I have assumed that the three players that would normally qualify as Off-budget but are forced into On-Budget slots are of the $44,000 flavor, but we have no real way of knowing. I randomly selected Barklage, Arteaga, and Vuolo.  But it could be any of the low-salary guys, really.

We are just at salary cap of $2,810,000 without allowing how much of Pearce's salary is being picked up by Chivas, so we haven't used any of our vast allocation money hoarde.  We are in a great position to pick up a player or two during the summer transfer window.  Also, as we pick up players, we have 3 players currently On-Budget who can be slid into Off-Budget slots.

Joel's guaranteed compensation was bumped from $125,000 to $195,000 in his off-season renegotiation.

Wilman Conde isn't getting nearly what I thought.  It was made to sound like it was taking allocation money just to get him below DP status, the way everyone was writing about it.

Ryan Meara is the steal of MLS at the youth minimum of $33,750.

Who the hell is Ryan Maduro?

There's a lot more to digest here.  Please share your thoughts in the comments below, and at our Facebook page.
